When I ssh into a remote production server I would like the colour scheme of my terminal window to change to something brigh and scary, preferably red, to warn me that I am touching a live scary server.

Why not just changing the shell prompt whenever you are logged in via SSH? There are usually specific shell variables: SSH_CLIENT , SSH_CONNECTION , SSH_TTY
You can set the $PS1 variable in your .bashrc .

I have a question. I have my Comcast box, Sony Blue ray player, and Xbox all connected with HDMI. When I turn on my Blue Ray player the TV will automaticly change the HDMI to the player. For the cable box and the Xbox I have to have the remote in hand...

In this case, I first recommend you to turn the Auto Input Sensing feature on:
-Go to the Menu, SETTINGS, AUTO INPUT SENSING, select ON and exit the menu .

Yeah I did the reset soupy, I was a reg member of the old style forum 'different name... .
Backup all your stuff first.
Performing the Reset will cure this.
After the Update, did you do a Factory Data Reset?

I was wondering if there is a way to mark certain frames in a split window emacs session as inviolate to changing. I normally have 4 frames for sources files and 2-3 frames for other views such as compilation/grep-find/etc.

Is there anyway that the gearbox in my C220CDI SC would change itself to "c" mode?
