I've had this problem on occasions as well and I found out that trashing the iTunes Library.itl file stored in your Music/iTunes folder will solved the issue the only downside is that you have to recreate your iTunes library after....

Since 2 days ago, itunes crashes whenever i try to access the itunes library via apple tv 2

This worked for me to enclosed items for the itunes folder....
Hope this helps someone else out there.
I had previously used Disk Manager which clearly changed some required permissions for itunes.
Did the trick.
That itunes accesses.

As others here have explained, you use iTunes to view your
music with playlists - not by placing files into folders.
