EASEUS ToDo Backup is a free alternative to clone disks, with similar capabilities.... .
Symantec Ghost v11 will do that, you can clone the source drive to any destination as long as the used data do not exceed the disk space available on the target drive .

I guess you could try to find a SATA-ATA adapter (like this ), but SATA and ATA use completely different connections for data and for power (see the pictures in the links) .

I'm looking to put an expansion EIDE controller in my dad's desktop so it can handle a new 500 GB drive (evidently the motherboard EIDE controller has the 137 GB limit). He got a 500 GB USB hard drive for it, too, and I was wondering if that would work...

Some experiment I did with hard drive read/write speed was 10MB/s write and 40MB/s read, and with a USB Flash drive, it can be 5MB/s write and 10MB/s read.

So even if your flash memory was the same speed in both cases, the drive would have a higher potential throughput .
One big difference is that the flash drive is using the USB bus, while the drive is using the SATA bus .

Hi,
My PC was running Ubuntu 9.10 with two hard drives installed. I recently installed Windows 7 and I have trouble accessing the content on the secondary hard drive. The Win7 recognizes both hard drives, as I can see the second hard drive on the disk...

Windows can't read those filesystems, so it can't see any files stored on the second drive .
Ubuntu probably formatted the other drive using the ext3 or ext4 file system .
You mean Ubuntu 9.04, I presume.
