However, i'm not positive you'll be reaching the maximum capacity of the card as the PCI-E.
It will work.

I just bought an LSI SAS 9211-8i HBA(Host bus adapter) to use with my new hardware. I realized after looking at the card that it required an x8 slot and my new mobo only x16 available. I keep on reading that PCI-E specs are backwards compatable however...

If there are fewer PCI-E lanes available than the card requires, it should run a little slower....
Yes, in the general case you can install PCI-E cards in any PCI-E slot that will physically accept the card.
Upgrade.

Iteration doubles the available bandwidth - eg a PCI-E 2.0 X8 slot has the same bandwidth as a PCI-E 1.1 X16 slot
For the most part they are all backwards compatible.

As the title states, will the PCI-E 1x card work in a 16x slot and if it does work if I have a video card in the other 16x slot will it affect the performance of the video card? Will everything work flawless?

Hello
Is it possible to convert a PCI-e x1 slot into an old PCI slot? If so, how?
Thanks,

There are little cards that you can slip into the PCI-e x1 slot to convert intended for PCI slots, not....
Pci-e slots(not even the full size 16x versions, let alone a 1x) are not backwards, there actually are.
They could do it.

I was curious to see what kind of difference I could see switching between the three modes. My motherboard, an Asus P9X79 Deluxe, has the ability to switch between Gen1, Gen2, and Gen3 modes. The results posted are from Metro 2033 with every game setting...

I thought PCI-E 3.0 is only available with upcoming Ivy Bridge CPUs?
Edit - Seems of a drop in performance....

My daughter bought The Sims 3, but her video card wasn't supported. So we need to upgrade.
Unfortunately, her XP machine only has a PCI slot and NOT a PCI-e slot. They say a NVIDIA GeForce 9400 is supported , and that card comes available for both PCI...

Main Question : Would I see any benefit (I/O bandwidth-wise) to purchasing a separate (non-raid) PCI-e controller card to plug SATAII drives into vs on-board SATAII slots?
I'd be plugging at least four drives into whichever solution I go with.
Context...
