I just bought an LSI SAS 9211-8i HBA(Host bus adapter) to use with my new hardware. I realized after looking at the card that it required an x8 slot and my new mobo only x16 available. I keep on reading that PCI-E specs are backwards compatable however...

If there are fewer PCI-E lanes available than the card requires, it should run a little slower....
Yes, in the general case you can install PCI-E cards in any PCI-E slot that will physically accept the card.

Can you see the wireless card or the adapter through... .
I've never used one of those before, but I've heard less than spectacular things about them .
Your problem probably lies somewhere in between no drivers for the adapter card, and the adapter card itself .
Here's my question in pictures: Will something like this: fit into this? (the x16 slot) In an argument with my friend about it - want to make sure I'm not crazy. (I'm saying no)

It depends on the board - and on some that the primary x16 slot... .
And only have one pci-e slot? That situation is rare.

Pcie x16 2.0 will work in a mobo with pcie x16 1.0 but the graphiccard will be bottelnecked .

Hooks up via PCI-e 4x, and provides real hardware RAID5 and RAID6.

Is there much difference between PCI-E X16 1.1 and PCI-E X16 2.0? I have a Sapphire HD 6850 on my ASrock N68C-S UCC which only has a PCI-E X16 1.1 slot. If I was to get a motherboard with PCI-E X16 2.0 would I see much difference in performance and FPS...

There isn't t much difference but i wouldn't recommend running it at 1.1 .
2.0 is MUCH MUCH faster in every way, shape, and form .
