I prefer SMplayer - mainly for the MPlayer backend KMPlayer .

You won't be able to open Windows Media Player thoughNot the easiest solution but you could use AutoHotkey to catch the media keys , and then pass....
Media Features and untick Windows Media Player.
On my Windows 7 machine if I i go to Default Programs, all the media files are associated to Windows Media Player and the association check-boxes are grayed-out. How can I fix this?

You can only un-associate.
You can't do it in Windows.
The checkboxes are disables because you cannot unassociate Windows Media Player or any other which files it should be associated with.

F8 will decrease the volume F9 will increase the volume You can also use the volume mixer to change WMP's volume: Maybe you'd like volumouse .
You can use the keyboard shortcuts.

One way to do it would be to write a Windows Media Player plug-in.
This url (or any streaming mp3) cannot be played by my windows media player : http://mp3.streampower.be/radio1-mid.mp3 It can be played however in for instance VLC. The problem is that I want to listen to some streams on a website with in flash embedded...

VLC won't encounter these problems.
It might be a codec problem.
Well on my windows media player.
I've set autoplay to "Take no action" on all devices and file types in Windows 7, but Windows Media Player 12 seems to completely ignore this. I can't find a setting in any of the media player options either. How do I prevent Windows Media Player 12 autoplaying...

Though this registry edit is meant for Windows Media Player 10: I checked my other machine and found the same behavior described above when previously it did not autoplay a CD when Media Player 10THis is not a direct....
In Windows Media Player (not center, specifically Win 7), is there a hot key or something that will let me skip forward or backward a few seconds or few minutes? For this reason alone, I often use WinAmp or VLC.

Give ac3filter a try, it seemed to do the job for numerous others , hopefully it will work for you .
