I just got a used Cingular 8525 from Ebay. It's currently running Windows Mobile 5. The Device Information shows:
ROM version: 1.34.502.1
ROM date: 09/21/06
Radio version: 1.16.00.00
Protocol version: 32.53.7018.01H
I would like to upgrade this to...

I'll include the 5 step install instructions to install the rom using my bootloader once again.
I've just tested it still works with this rom (not that there should be any reason it wouldn't work).
Everything works smoothly. I even flashed it using windows...

through USB, it cannot connect to the internet using Desktop-Pass-Through
