Note that I added the "b" for binary in the file ... .
Something with your system (filesystem?) ; I would try pickling in binary mode; use dump(idMap, idmapfile, protocol=2)
So, using python31 I made just a small change to your example and it worked fine .

It really depends if you're planning on turmoiling every task, though .

Personally, I'd go with the top option - you'll notice a +6 prayer bonus a lot more than you'll notice a +6 stab bonus .
