If I have something like:
long x = 1/2;
shouldn't this be rounded up to 1? When I print it on the screen it say 0.
Answer Snippets (Read the full thread at stackoverflow):
The right hand side expression is 1/2, and since 1 and 2 are both integers the lines of 5/3 will return 1, as only one three....
It can't round because it's never in a state to be rounded
The expression "1/2 expression.
Of the decimal point.

I need to evaluate the sum of the row: 1/1+1/2+1/3+...+1/n. Considering that in C++ evaluations are not complete accurate, the order of summation plays important role. 1/n+1/(n-1)+...+1/2+1/1 expression gives the more accurate result. So I need to find...

+ 1/n)) =....
+ 1/n = log(exp(1 + 1/2 + 1/3 + ...
Basically:
H_n = 1 + 1/2 + 1/3 + ...
Corner cases where errors due to rounding to powers of (1/2) might just so happen to give a closer ;
Another way is to use exp-log transformation.

Answer Snippets (Read the full thread at yahoo):
U = x + x^(1/2)
du/dx = 1 + (1/2) * x^(-1/2)
d/dt t^(1/2) => (1/2) * dt / t^(1/2)
So:
d/dx (x + x^(1/2)^(1/2) =>
(1/2) * (1 + (1/2) / x^(1/2)) / (x + x^(1/2))^(....
