Whats the difference between the Intel Dual-Core(brand name) processor and the Core 2 Duo? It seems like clock speed is the only difference, but I want to make sure that is the case. It seems like anything over 2.6GHz is Core 2 Duo, and anything under...

The Core 2 Quad has four cores will see a tremendous improvement over a Core 2 Duo at the same clock speed.
The Core 2 Duo has two cores inside a single physical package.

I have a core 2 duo desktop, but in taskman i can only see one panel in the performance tab, where i'm certain there should be two. Also, in perfmon, under Processor -> % Processor Time, there is only "_Total" and "0" instance.
Am i missing some dual...

Officially should be no because your CPU is not relevant, however, I have not seen a Core 2 Duo system in single channel mode if the DIMM sockets are populated in one channel only.

I understand that the Core 2 Duo is a 64-bit processor, while Core Duo is a 32-bit processor. Let me know if my understanding is wrong. My Linux server, with the Core 2 Duo E8400, is currently running Fedora 9 x32. This machine has 4 Gig of RAM and I ...

The one area this is not necessarily true.
The most imporant one is the increased number of registers, which long enough that active projects don't have issues.
Than just the memory space.

The first run of MacBook Pros have Core Duo processors, whereas all the ones after that have Core 2 Duos. Apple says Snow Leopard only requires an Intel processor, but will a first-gen MacBook Pro get enough of the improvements to be worth upgrading?

Since this processor is not 64-bit, I can only use Grand Central Dispatch everything, and the bugs don't really bother me .
