If given the choice, which path would you take? 1. asp.net webforms + asp.net ajax
or
asp.net mvc + ajax framework of your choice (jquery, yui, prototype, etc). Focus point: Are their any limitations to #1, or hurdles since it is less 'free/open'

I prefer to use WebForms + custom HTTPHandlers handling the server side of any AJAX calls.
I love webforms, but ASP.NET AJAX is a pile of crap.

I'm working on an ASP.net 3.5 website with MooTools as the AJAX framework.
So, I want to disable ASP.net's AJAX framework so it behaves more like ASP.net 2.0.
This is to decrease page loading times and to reduce incompatibilities.

Title says it all, but I have a server with .Net 2.0 sp1 installed and have no ability to install the AJAX extensions on the server.
Is there anyway I could work around this to incorporate ASP.NET AJAX functionality?

The JavaScript prompt command
