My default language is English (Australia). This has been set in Contol Panel
and Word options. New documents always open with the default language
correctly set as English...

Graham, I did as you suggested, but unfortunately nothing has changed. Just
to make sure that I was in the right regedit area, I closed regedit then
reopened it to confirm...

I believe there is a bug within Word 2007 regarding setting the default
spelling language to anything other than US English.
Every setting and region on my PC is set to English...
