I have a 5.2 with a 46RH transmission in my MJ and need the long nose input but I have my 249 input I could swap into it .
There was a gear cut change in late 95 on the 242.
I need a 91-95 XJ or 93-95 ZJ 242.
A little more info.

I bought a 242 from transfercases.com guy on the phone said I would get the 242HD how do I know I got an HD by just looking at it?
I know it's a stupid question but I have no clue when it comes to the 242.
EDIT: Does the 242 use ATF+4 if so how much?

Use ATF+4 242 don't.
Standard 242 has 27 I believe.
If it's a 242HD, it will have 32.
On the rear output shaft.

There was a similar awd t-case offered in 86, but it wasn't a 242: : there was a similar awd t-case offered....
The availability of the 242 in another Jeep and their response was it wasn't information they could give me as it was a trade secret.

Im thinking of getting Recaro DC2 seat for my 242 but not sure if they will work. could i just weld the oem seat brackets to the recaro brackets? I konw there was a thread about this but i cant seem to find it.

I have done a lot of reading and just need someone to confirm what I think I am reading. Would a 242 out of a 97 zj 4.0 be a direct bolt in to a 98 zj 5.2 that presently has a 249?

You will need to address the drive haft length as the external slip yoke on the 242 the drive haft length as the external slip yoke on the 242 will be 1.5" longer than the 249.
Wiring will hook up.
