Just thought I'd revise this, after I swapped a T7200 for a T7400 from a Toshiba A100.
Now I've tested using Vista Ultimate X64 vs XP pro x86 from last time.
This is of course not an ideal test, but will give you guys ...

The graphics card is also an issue.
So a 2GHz Pentium is not the same as a 2GHz i7.
Different architecture's and pipelines will be different.
2GHz is just the speed the CPU runs at.

I've recently changed laptop and I would have expect it to be quite a lot faster, but it feels more or less the same? Is it just Vista? Will it be better with Win7?

My Windows....
Windows XP has less requirements than Vista, and yes, I have noticed that it runs "faster" than Vista on several machines I have worked on .
It could be a problem with your machine, or OS configuration, or something else, I have no way to know .

I've found plenty of Caddys for another drive inplacement of the ODD but they're all SATA interface whereas the ODD on my macbook (a1181 2006) is ATA interface .

Regardless, you can generalize about each processor:
Celeron: 1-2 cores, small cache, no hyperthreading, slow integrated video... .
Branding used to be a strict definition of features, but these days it doesn't necessarily mean anything .
It's not that simple.
