I don't thing any but the very best are nearly as sharp as the Olympus digital specific lenses to keep your E-500 under ISO400 whenever possible for best results, and the 70-300 works best at f8-f11 the IS situation....

By that time a D40+18-55 will be under $200.
With the D20 in a month, $350, water-proof and drop-proof, not much going for it as a camera, but cool.
