It likely won't make much of a difference.
Granted, rendering takes a bit longer if you're dealing with reflections, realistic lighting, etc .

It doesn't use Java3D (AFAIK), either self-made 3D or OpenGL (using JOGL IIRC).
I saw many (non commercial, mostly artistic) 3D applets made with Processing .

Look on craigslist or the for sale/trade thread for some used HP ZR24w's or Dell U2410's in your area .
