As one way to see if that could be an issue, try this:

I am sure apple took that into account information for many locations .

It seems like the steps right now are:
Shoot movie sync iPhone with Mac via iTunes Open iPhoto Import photos from iPhone into iPhoto Open iMovie (or retart if it was already running) On startup, iMovie detects videos in iPhoto and imports them. Yikes....

When I tried to use Maps without a connection....
I am sure that there are probably third party applications that will work such as TomTom Iphone , but the default Google Maps application requires a network connection .

I don't have an iPhone anymore, but if memory serves, there is a tab for photos just like calendars, apps, music, etc .
You do the photo sync from inside iTunes.

Right now, I am posting this from my iPhone 3GS, and iOS 5 runs as good on my 3GS like my dad's iPhone 4.
iOS 4 had about 50 mb ram free before, but iOS 5 seems to have about 80 mb free.

All depends on when it comes out, if iOS 6 is released before the 3GS is discontinued then it'll get it but it'll probably be like the 3G where it was cut off....
Miracle of programming I don't think the 3GS will be up to coping with iOS 6.
