My iPhone 3g won't connect to the internet using it's 3g capabilities anymore. I've got 3g turned on and the 3g logo appears beside my signal indicator but when I try to use 3g for my nike + app or simply to browse the internet or facebook I get nowhere...

Why use a 3G that will allow you to use the phone's 3G radio to share internet with a desktop/laptop PC...it's like tethering without having to pay extra....
I believe the HTC Hero is also Windows Mobile 6.1 .
And that's out of the box.

You cannot choose to use wifi vs 3G....
The iPhone SDK abstracts out (in most cases) your connection type .
You app should be aware of the network status whether it be EDGE, 3g or WiFi.
You can't programatically start a 3g connection.
