I'm looking to get an iPhone 3G on contract but it's still fairly expensive on either a monthly contract or PAYG. Does anyone knows of any deals or imminent price cuts?

I've had a replacement sim from O2 to prove out whether or not it is strictly a 3G issue? To work through this you need a carefully I would like it ....
At which time it will shift back to 3G and stay there once again.

In New Zealand, Vodafone is the 'official' iPhone network, but it seems
that there is nothing tying the iPhone to Vodafone. Telecom NZ is

Sounds like you just need a PAYG micro sim, which is what I use for the occasional times I'm away I have a T_Mobile monthly contract on my iPhone, same with my wifes Galaxy S2, and of course why I use a PAYG T-Mobile....
