My understanding is at&t uses 1900 Mhz for 3G and tmobile uses both 1700Mhz
and 1900Mhz (one to send one to receive).
Many gsm phones by default supports 1900Mhz but not 1700Mhz.

Google Reader's mobile interface is also.
You can have a look at Facebook or Gmail mobile interface to have an idea.
People on 3G have a better chance.
GPRS/EDGE , then better avoid Images even more.

As far as I know, it is technically possible to make phone calls (via the 2G network).
