Im sorry if I'm asking a noob question but I'm having a hard time trying to figure out which Video Card I should get. To me it appears the higher the Model number the better the card.
What throws me off is the face that the 4870 cost more than the 577...

Just a thought if you're running low on cash a PC card and use that under Boot Camp as it will fully work under Windows and it's also a lot cheaper.
Has happened, you can flash it to work under OS X too.

I have been having some vista issues and needed to go into system restore via safe mode. It seems in safe mode and now startup recovery during the process the signal goes and the red light on the card comes on.

The 4870 will be an improvement -although the model you want to buy is a 512MB one.
On top of that, a 4870 is a good card (when getting the 1GB version).

Unless it is an XFX card, you will likely need DOS or a PC to flash controls that limitation....
Mac Pro cards are RUN from PC Creator to wait for it create a ROM.
10.6.8 or later, the card will fire up when machine reaches desktop.
