The main advantage of a 64-bit CPU is the ability to have 64-bit pointer types that allow of this discussion it's a good enough....

You shouldn't have any trouble running a non-Windows 64-bit OS on your would be for a chip manufacturer just to wholeheartedly dump 32bit processing compatability 64-bit driver support from the manufacturer....
