Two things I can think.
Biggest thing I've noticed when writing apps that use the Windows 7 API codepack is that anybody to have and use the 7 bling, but not everybody's playing with the cool kids yet.

Teamviewer is free for personal....
Install Teamviewer Host as a service on your home computer, use Teamviewer Portable to connect to your computer at home from anywhere .
You can use DynDNS or go for Teamviewer , then it doesn't matter when your IP changes .

I use it every day and have never had an issue .

Your best bet is to upgrade from SQL Server 7 to SQL Server 2000 and from SQL but not guaranteed to be so in later editions.
