Am I right in thinking that each processor can independently address 4GB, so the answer is 8Gb?
Does the same hold true for a dual-core?

This stackoverflow post describes....
It is a bit more complicated than that with Xeons and others with MMU's that support wider physical address spaces .
The answer is 4GB as they have a shared address space - the processors can both see the same 4GB of RAM .

I'm building a developer PC and am wondering whether to get 8GB or 12GB. It's a Core-i7 860 system, i.e., 1156 motherboards with 4 slots for RAM sticks, dual channel, usually up 16GB (as opposed to 1366 sockets where 6 banks / triple-channel are used)...

As an ASP.NET/C#/SQL Server developer, it's almost the processing power to backup 8GB of ram.
(Don't want to get quoted as opposed to 8GB?
Not much until you need it.
That 8GB would be ample to last the next few years at least.

I'm running Windows 7 on a dual core, x64 AMD with 8GB RAM.
Do I even need a pagefile?
Will removing it help or hurt performance?

But if you remove the pagefile it....
I'm sure you are somehow better off with a pagefile but we have lots of W2K8 servers with 8GB of is that under a normal load you may not use up the 8GB, but it is the unexpected loads where you will run.

Ok I have Windows 7 Home Premium with a AMD X4 965 Quad Core and 8GB of Crucial ram. I have no idea why my comp says it is using 6 gigs of ram when it doesn't show any reason. Below are the screen shots of my task manager.

(It frees up if it's needed, don't worry)
edit: BlueRaja makes a good point... .
It's a good thing - RAM'd be useless to you otherwise .
Your RAM is tens of times faster than your HDD, so starting with Vista, windows aggressively caches program data .
Caching.

^^ yep, and 8 gb like me and you live in a box, then go for the 8gb.
You'll run out of space quickly with the 8gb and just be out of luck.
For the 32gb.

The printer drivers can be found in your_hard_drive/Library/Printers.
You can delete all the printer drivers, I remember they take up a bunch of space .

To the same size as the memory, so the 8GB seems normal.
