Any of you guys and gals gardening experts? I need some advice on pruning a well established Acer Palmatum tree. Is this an appropriate time to prune it, or is it too late? Thank you in advance

They are very prone to die-back, so should be pruned I think back for the advice Charles .

Hubby agrees that OK gets the nod as being slightly brighter than... .

If you do get plenty to grow, I would advise grafting them onto green acer rootstock, when done... .
Sinking seeds are more likely to be viable so no alarm! However red maples are not great or vigorous on their own roots so will always be an uphill struggle .
I have been looking for the right acer palmatum for my yard zone 9b. This will be planted under the canopy of a mature Fruitless Mulberry so I really don't want it be much more than 6 - 8 feet at maturity. I have been looking at the Butterfly and am confused...

Butterfly is a good choice for usda 9b,another good cultivar with similar variegations leaves is Beni schichi henge ,and remain small :) Thanks for you suggestion .

I was looking for this cultivar....
In the autumn the colour of leaves is very dissappointing, they just seem to drop,possibly because it is in a very shaded area.Hover over pics to see date .

Here are some pictures of two examples from Westonbirt....
This photo was taken April 29, 2007 and it shows the spring colors which usually hold well for 4-6 weeks .
As I mentioned above, the leaves of Issai Nishiki are lovely in addition to the rough bark feature .
