Is anyone aware of a way to import an .obj file into Blender 2.5? XPlane2Blender only allows export to .obj.

I have been using AC3D to do this function, first import to AC3D then export as a Collada format and import into Blender 2.61 generated .objs ....
And save the file as a blender file, then open in Blender 2.5 or higher.

That's what I use.
From personal experience.
AC3D costs around $80, the other two are free.
Blender and Sketchup.

If you prefer to work with a single ac3d file, you can group the two types and Hide one....
As a seperate "panel object", is this not the case? or is it just that AC3D can't do it? Edited by jimzane object.

This will help you create texturing the model - If you're using blender to create the model, texture it, and export it in .x.
You should use a 3D modeling tool like Blender , AC3D or similar.

Also I would suggest "sketchup" which can now downloaded free thanks to Google being so nice to us these days and releasing it for nothing! http://sketchup.google.com/ its extremely easy to use and almost magical ! its mainly for creating architecture... .

AC3D can reduce the triangle count pretty good and as an alternative I ported QVis.
I have written a reader/renderer for AC3D files that works fine at google code .
Or write one yourself.

I'm not exactly sure what....
For many years now the DirectX file format (.x extension) is very popular and Blender contains vertex morping.
I was also fond of the AC3D.
Studio max format (.3ds) is quite used, as well as renderman RIB file .

Blender is the only decent one I know, why not taking a look/ Blender's OK, if a little quirky....
Also, Blender is not that strange once you to use, and has very good tutorials.
Not sure if it helps, but you might look at Wings 3D .
