This will help you create texturing the model - If you're using blender to create the model, texture it, and export it in .x.
You should use a 3D modeling tool like Blender , AC3D or similar.

AC3D can reduce the triangle count pretty good and as an alternative I ported QVis.
I have written a reader/renderer for AC3D files that works fine at google code .
Or write one yourself.

I'm not exactly sure what....
For many years now the DirectX file format (.x extension) is very popular and Blender contains vertex morping.
I was also fond of the AC3D.
Studio max format (.3ds) is quite used, as well as renderman RIB file .

Blender is the only decent one I know, why not taking a look/
Blender's OK, if a little quirky....
Also, Blender is not that strange once you to use, and has very good tutorials.
Not sure if it helps, but you might look at Wings 3D .

It is a great place to begin learning....
It will help with blender and model export very well.
I haven't done much texture work has great video and src tutorials on their site .
In your Blender files, should they be exportable in that format.
