Its a pretty straightforward question to ask of me. I am currently trying to piece together pure iodine. But I don't know how to extract pure Iodine from Tincture of Iodine(The antiseptic). Can someone please explain to me how to do it?

When I'm in China, my Tincture of Iodine has KI and I 2 with CH 3 equation of CuI and ....
I would say it is common for tincture of iodine to be KI + I2 + ethanol added and perhaps some water of Iodine if is the same as China.

I know all the cool kids use filters these days, but the retrogrouch in me is leery of dealing with one more thing that can easily break. We used iodine tabs for years when backpacking without problems.

Why not just use straight Iodine? it will work faster and i feel (filtered through a bandanna) and only used....
Iodine isn't the most reliable water-treatment method:
Efficacy of iodine water purification has its pros and cons though.

When I first got freshwater shrimp I read they need an iodine supplement, then I read this was a myth so I stopped using iodine. I have never used iodine since and my shrimp have been fine and breeding prolificly for 2.5+ years.

I'm not big on supplementation, except for a few things. One of those is iodine and selenium. Has anyone else here supplemented with iodine, specifically Lugol's Iodine?

I crunch up nori sheets 220% of RDA of iodine (which is a bit low @ 150mcg.) Kelp granules and kombu are good sources, kelp noodles are tasty as well.
Regularly including sea veges in your diet should address iodine needs.

Same for many if not most advanced reefers.
I do not think iodine supplemention is desirable and have long since stopped doing it with no apparent issues.
