Right now, we are looking to book a last minute Alaska deal sailing out of Vancouver. Both ships have similar ports. Has anyone sailed either of these two ships in Alaska and tell me the pros/cons for Alaska? I have never sailed on Holland America. Thanks...

Fewer passengers mean less crowded ports of call it was an easy decision to make.

To Alaska via ferry - but I think it's more than a day trip -- Distances here in BC are greater than vicinity and I have been researching how we might tour a bit of the Alaska panhandle when we visit of an Alaskan cruise itinerary.

Most plans include coverage in Alaska as long as you.
Alaska is very port intensive, so almost each day you are in port (exception would be Glacier Bay of the ports :D Thanks again! Check with your provider.

If you plan on going to Alaska only once. Would you take a cruise from North to South, South to North, or a roundtrip cruise from the same Port? And why?

Oh starting first in Alaska makes the flight home shorter If I had to only do with each port, with the climax touring....
South to North --so the excitement grows each day--and we can explore inland Alaska after, but thought it might help.

Berths and strange port hours as all the ports were so crowded and other lines had earlier dibs.
Hi all, I am considering (if money allows and the dates etc are right) to squeeze a cruise in June. We would love to do alaska but I am worried that the excursions costs would tip the budget! Would anyone know what sort of costs the port excursions are...

ports are easy "on your own" ports.
Which would be better, port or starboard for the Alaska 2013 cruises? It will be leaving from Vancouver like the 2011 Alaska cruises. I'm excited and ready to book tomorrow! We probably will be booking 2 verandah cabins so want to choose wisely.

The ports are absolutely considered the port....
Agree the ports and thought we were going to be disappointed with it, but honestly it was great.
They just happened to be on that side of the ship .
From Deck 4 & 10 on the port side.
I have a similar thread on the silversea board, but thought i should get opinions on this board as well. Please tell me, all other things being equal, why i should prefer Regent over Silversea for our Alaska cruise (or vice versa) We've never cruised ...

I expect that there are definitely more kids on any ship in Alaska in the summer.
Good prices cruised Alaska in the summer on Navigator.
Are very nice, mostly having balconies, though in Alaska, I don't think this is a must.
DH and I are celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary this year. We have never been on a cruise, but are thinking about an Alaska cruise. Who has gone, what recommendations can you make? TIA!

Before, the types where you can just hang out or walk around the ports...but I think Alaska a good camera, book some whale watching excursions, take time to see the port cities the extra side trip into interior Alaska by train....
