I use iTunes (in OSX) with the grid view, and the albums are by default ordered by artist.
Within each artist, the albums are ordered alphabetically by album name.
I'd like to have an ordering by year, so the albums are dsplayed alphabetically by artist...

When viewing an individual artist, click on the header for the Album column and it will cycle albums organized by year; click the year header until it cycles to "Album by Year".

I understand the basics of inheritance but this one is confusing me. How would you go about saying:

Instead you want to look at encapsulation.
Is an Album an Artist? No I don't think that is either so Album should not inherit from Artist.
It is so Song should not inherit from Album.

I'm a new iPod user, and having tried and failed with some of the third-party uploaders, I think I'm stuck with iTunes. However, I find the user interface intensely frustrating.
For compilation albums (and the like), each track has the same album name...

For most compilations you should have "Various Artists" as the ....
Check whether Album Artist field (and other Specs, Album Artist is how they should be grouped.
Check the Compilation checkbox on song information form.

Regardless of how many albums of the same artist that I have, I usually find that the first one that I bought is my most favourite. It's as if I came of age for that artist at that album. This is true even if I subsequently bought other albums of that...

If i have an album say 100% Christmas with 2 dozen different artists in it winamp on the PC handles it find, but on the droid it displays 2 dozen albums all with 1 song... why is that?

I set the Album Artist tag on all my compilation and DJ mix!....
I think Winamp for Android is just not using/reading or ignoring the Album Artist tag.
On the album because the Artist on every track is different.
