You wouldn't expect the AAA cell to last as long as the AA cell however.
You're right.
An alkaline cell IS a common cell.
Note that there are also even larger sizes, A, B, C, etc .

C and D cells, being larger, last longer used in a specific application....
AA batteries, however, provide power of anode material which is consumed as it does electrical work .
Battery is the same as an AAA battery, C cell or D cell.
