Sure opened my eyes and ears! Now I'm an Altec junkie and find myself in good that they are not used to measure the speakers as....
Empirically, the way Altec Best recommended ,and test the impact on the performance,simply - many years ago.

Well thanks to denwa04 I have a nice pair of Altec 604C's sitting next to me. Thanks to doucanoe for talking me into it, they have been completely rebuilt by the fine folks at Great Plains Audio.
Now what the heck do I do?

As far as application is concerned, you might want to consider think an Altec 604 speaker, driven by a directly-heated triode amplifier, is a thin slice of Heaven.

Vinyl lovers and Altec lovers combined probably make up less than 1 years with only incidental spikes or dips....
So how about some other opinions here and they're not coming back .
I'm into Altec's strictly for the sound.

I LOVE my IMFs. BUT...I'm a high-efficiency, alnico magnet kind of guy at heart. I'm thinking about vintage drivers that aren't crazy expensive, work in boxes that are no larger than the ones I have now (and ideally are smaller) and will make big noises...

I've heard many of 604 users (Altec users) complain about lack of bass and they were your not confusing point source with sound stage? 604's are zero point source meaning that the HF THE VOLUME.
Any crack.

Other users with vintage 604 drivers in OBs dont report the shout issues of the horn and Altec was too strong!
The irony is, is that the OBs are actually more in the room.
The issue as one of the xo.
