Which speakers would you prefer: Altec 604 or Altec A7 ?
Amp - 300B (9w). Small room. Mainly interested in sound quality...

Bear in mind A7s were originally designed for large spaces (604-8H) sound fabulous....
A7's would overwhelm you and the room.
Altec 288 on a large Multicell's (A5) are superb.The clarity is astonishing.The( A7's-A5"s) 825-828.

Hi there,
i am looking for Crossover schematic diagram of the A7 with 511 horn and 802D driver with 416C LF.
The existing one I have is the N501 and I think the caps are all dried up. It is 50 years old now. Any suggestion and help will be greatly appreciated...

But in the meantime may I suggest you research Zilch's Z19 crossover? I think it would work in the A7.

Looking they woofers were reconed recently....
Or they could be newer Altec woofers I'm not familiar with- maybe a 411-8a.
Those are either not Altec woofers or the dust caps have been replaced.
The woofers should be 803, 515s or 416s.
Drivers.

I have the parts to assemble a pair of 19's except the crossovers.
Could a pair of crossovers from A7's be used temporally until I'm able to get proper crossovers?
The 416 woofers in the A7's are 8 ohms, same as the woofers for the 19's. The crossover...

I picked up a pair of Altec A7 votts today - I have an issue with one of the 806a 16ohm drivers, it is quite a bit quieter than the other one- I measured the resistance and the louder one was at 11.4 and the softer at 9.4 - I looked at the diaphragms ...

Altec switched the lugs for attaching the wires, the more current ones have solderless lugs.

The 800 hz crossover threw me for a loop.
I was thinking they would be A7-500-8 since they were A7 cabinets with 500B horns.
Altec to mid 1970's.
Okay, since nobody has chimed in with any info I'll say that I found what model these are .

So I've had a pair of A7's in the living room for a long time. 8w DHT PP W5-M Heaths poweing them. Audio source was the TV variable audio out.
Pretty sad actually.

I use an equalizer on all three of my Altec.
Just maybe the key to listening to altec VOTT speakers is that you need to have a sheet of movie, my name is voice of the theater, and I'm an EQ holic.

Recommended 35 watts for under 1600 capacity, 70 watts for over 1600.
