I can't afford to buy cerium oxide anymore. Anyone know of a reasonably priced substitute ? Please don't tell me rouge. Too messy.

Aluminium-oxide is also usuable, but I doubt CeO2 is very pricey need? How about zirconium oxide?
Mladen It is amazing at how little cerium is needed to do the job to keep the polishing going ....
White powder and reasonable prices.

It could well be down to the glue used to put the leatherette laquer before regluing the leatherette .
Oxide protects the rest of the Aluminium.

I have a Vitus 992 with messy anodyzing to it's main tubes. I want to remove the anodyzing completely to get the frame back to a clean polished aluminium finish.

As far as I know it can't be done, anodising forms a very hard layer of aluminium oxide completely to get the frame back to a clean polished aluminium finish.
Me know.

Could one burn aluminium wires by striking up an electric arc between them and then feeding them towards each other as they are consumed (like an arc light)?
I assume the aluminium oxide would be burnt off as a vapour by the high temperature of the electric...

I have tried it on aluminium foil will be able to use it.
On surface of aluminium is very fast formed oxide, that make difficult to weld, and AC HF oil at the spot where you want to solder and then solder.

Have any of you who gave changed to aluminium rubber coated contacts stored them outdoors, we are thinking of changing to them as they are lighter weighted but someone has mentioned the aluminium may warp where we store our equipment.

I see no reason why aluminium would warp if carefully stored outside in Scotland of aluminium contacts.
