I think Ayoob suggested it, but I've been thinking that it makes more sense to wear an ankle holster while sleeping, and keep a gun in a quick access safe, than just set it on the nightstand.

Galco ankle glove.
It's hard to use except, it's easy enough to attach a holster to the seat or use a console compartment.
That said, hardly anyone likes wearing an ankle holster.
Strap or ankle band.
