My dad just got a new Lenovo all-in-one PC that comes with Microsoft Security Essentials. How are these "free" anti virus software like MSE and Avast? Or do I need some "real" anti virus?

I've created an auto-updating application which is distributed to 100s of users.
The auto-update utility is being flagged by 55% of antiviruses on virustotal ( link ).
My application was created in Delphi 7. Most of the flags are saying that this is Generic...

What free anti-virus do you find best? For the life of me I cant find my virus disc. I dont want to surf the web completely unprotected, thats like playing Russian roulette.
So until the magical disc fairy brings my disc back, what freebie virus software...

for the last week i'm having problems with my antivirus (panda antivirus pro 2010) en when i'm running self diagnose, he said that my antivirus (not the program but the part) has to be activated by restarting ...

ive had Macs since 2010 and haven't had a virus (as far as i no) but with the latest scare, is it worth it? If so which one?

As Symantec Anti-virus - it's the only tool I've ever used (although I occasionally run McAfee - freebie who you are, ALL anti-virus do a lousy job with adware, including NOD, they are simply not made in the Spyware and Adware....
