As far as I think all Antivirus need updates to tackle new viruses/trojans.
If your cousin doesn't have a net connection at home, he can download the manual update file from any Internet Cafe and install in on his PC. Nothing too regular. Once in a month...

so If you don't have a connection to your pc then use a antivirus that uses off line updates(you can download them from a cafe and install it to your pc later)
if you want free antivirus then use avasti or some thing like....
