Try right clicking on your project and selecting properties....
It defaults to JRuby which may not have the same gems as your ruby install .
Are you sure you are using the right PATH within Netbeans?
Netbeans has per project options for which platform you use .

My boss is against requiring our users to have secure passwords, even going so far to request they be setup by default to have passwords the same as their username. What should I do in this situation? What would you do?

You can flick the flagWrite two apps (one console, one windows) and then write another smaller app which based.
There is a flag in the exe that tells it whether to run as console or windowed app.

If the iPhone is Jailbroken as you say, you can install applications without iTunes... .
If the applications installed on the iPhone are associated with a different Apple ID and you try and put applications purchased with a different Apple ID it will not work .
