I've got a 100+ applique order that I'm going to do with Stahl's I wanted for an applique....
For applique & patches - AllStitch Embroidery Supplies So you're not wanting to do applique anymore but more laser cut or from stahl's.

Hi all,
I have seen a gorgeous pattern for a cushion which uses 'raw edge applique'.
i have a sewing machine but i have never done anything like this before.
can anyone help me by telling me what I need? do I need a special foot for the machine etc?

Shame you are so far away or I could show you and as I say hard to explain .
There are a few ways to do it but hard to explain, you can sew a few times with the normal sewing foot.
As for free motion embroidery.

Basically I have shirt from Express for Men with a (sorta of, missing two stripes) 2"x3" American Flag.
This would be really stiff and probably curl in the wash if it was a solid embroidery. Instead it's really flexible. Only the small blue field is stiff...

If you need help from Stahls and sew them onto the shirt using the satin edge stitch, then stitch the red stripes and blue applique....
Make sure you know how to do applique on your embroidery machine.

To hold it firm and adhere it to the under fabric .
And for the applique, Heat'n'Bond or double sided interfacing ..
But given that both the applique and the under-fabric are stretch, you ....
I am not big on applique ...

you can hand sew a quilt but i don't recommend it
making a quilt it) sew the squares into strips according to the pattern you are making (if you aren't going random with them)
then sew the strips ....

I am terrible at doing the "quilting" part of projects. Do I remenber reading that you can use some type of removable tape as a guide? How do you all manage to do straight lines which do not match existing seam lines? Thanks!

KG I used blue painter's tape at the edge of each applique.
To sew next to.
Edge of a post card, index card etc.

Put the whole construct on your machine and sew it from the bodice are sewing, be sure to pay attention....
I can't quite picture what you are saying in the skirt will stay put .
Might help if you posted a link to the tutorial you used.
