A young friend has asked me for advice on a new basic (buttonholes, zipperfoot, heavy duty fabric capacity...webbing,lightweight leather,duck) sewing machine. I have 2 37 year old Berninas and a 60 year old Phaff...so no new machines in sight for me. ...

I dont want to machine sew because a) the machine can be tempremental ( poor old thing )
I will see if I have something in my scrap bag to liven up the fabric...some kind of applique work etc what machine is it? I can help....

I 'craft' about 5-6 days a week. I have a Singer Curvy that has really helped bring me from 'sewing for dummies' satus to a adv beginner or early intermediate.
Anyways, I have tried doing applique on my machine and is really tricky on all those corners...

Sometimes it is a pain to keep changing threads for... .
The mulit thread machines run 5,000 and up.
The smaller ones are one thread only.
I use that one the MOST.
I HIGHLY recommend a machine with at least 5x7 hoop .
You will need to look at machine specs.

If it's any help - when I sewed for non-sewing clients that were far away, I'd get them to measure on those patterns....
I think you're to be commended for sewing long distance.
Hard to sew for kids that aren't near by.
