Greetings everyone...I'm considering purchasing my first Astro/Safari and had some questions. What appeals to me is the AWD feature of the van and they seem to be very capable when towing. I want to purchase a van/suv/truck for hauling and moving a bunch...

I don't feel that I need a conversion van...I think the Astro/Safari would fit the bill.

What is different inside the transmission for ....
For instance the 2000 has a "tow/haul" position.
The electronics are different.
If both are either 2wd or awd it's just a swap .
Both are 4l60e's and 1997 and newer have the bolt on bellhousing .
It should.
