I have some sort of audigy card, SB0090, that came with a front-panel thing with all kinds of gold-plated plugins and things, including firewire. The audigy itself has gold plated hardware all over it. Very blingy.

Audigy claims to have 100 dB, Realtek claims to have 95 dB.
Both Audigy and onboard have optical out but the amp only has analog really quality wise.
Board, then use the onboard.

ASIO, in turn, expects the creative sound card to use its onboard soundfonts... .
Given that Sibelius is a notation editor, I'd put my bet on the issue being that Sibelius expects ASIO (an alternate sound framework/driver for Windows) to handle the sound output .
