Because the "industry" isn't there, the pay scale "cap" for the area!
But at the same time, "Hollywood" is....
So that is the big problem with any city outside of NYC and LA .
Working in the music industry full time (like I do now) in Boston.

I suggest you try to listen to a pair of VMPS RM30II before you make up your mind. They are an extraordinary speaker, well within your price range.
Disclosure: I love mine so much I became an owner-agent, but there are plenty of happy VMPS owners...
