Canon 5DMkii autofocus, real opinions? Hi all, I'm contemplating a change of system from a Nikon D300 to a Canon 5DMkii. There's a few reasons behind this, and I've done a huge amount of research and searches on the subject. I know the in's and out of...

The D300 has a better autofocus system which will be mostIt depends on what your photo interests are or might be.
Release cables and timers use as well.
Even though d800 isn't out there yet.. but if it is ff and 36mp then all I care for is.. Sensor density is comparable if not higher.. so no loss of resolution At DX format - D800 has 14.8mp vs D300 12mp D800-7350x4912 (36x24) D300-4288x2848(23.6x15.8)...

Looking for opinions about whether the autofocus of the D300 is better for moving wildlife (birds in flight, moving animals) than the D90. After returning from a short vacation to FL, I've noticed that I had a good percentage of keepers but also some ...

Such sensors make quite a difference for action work.
It acquires a bit faster where the D300 has 15.
The D300 is noticeably stronger in all aspects of autofocus efficacy.
I have seen some people suggest that the D400 would basically have similar specs of the D300s but include the D7000's sensor, and a few other minor updates. Would anyone really upgrade to this camera for $1,700-$1,800? I had the D300 and eventually sold...

If that's true, I'll be replacing my D300 ....
And, as you mention, it would need more than that to entice most D300 owners to upgrade, in the same way that the D700 and D300 were very similar besides the sensor.
To the D7000 sensor.
Got it back with a stuck shutter. For $206, it is going back until it is fully fixed. My suspicion is that the repair vendor has run out of shutters, and just patched up my old one attempting to buy some time. Anyone have a D300 shutter replaced lately...

The camera autofocus is off by anywhere from a few inches up close to 6 feet further away! Nothing that AF.

Currently, my longest lens is the Nikkor 70-300VR (which is a little soft above 200mm), and I own a Kenko X 1.4 multiplier. Which of the 2 above (or another similar in budget and weight) would serve me better with an APS-C body (D300 or someday its replacement...
