I have a an AMD64 3000+ (socket 939) and a nVidia FX5200 (AGP) and it is struggling to play HD content from BBC iPlayer, the picture is quite jumpy. So I am wondering what is the minimum spec PC to watch BBC HD on BBC iPlayer?

Have no idea about the legality of connecting to a UK site from the US to use something that's geographically-bound, but the VPN aspect... .
If you flash your router with something like DD-WRT , you can have the router hold the VPN connection open for you .

As caesarome has pointed out, this decision rests with the BBC, we have approached the BBC....
It is up to the BBC if they want the iplayer on the sky service and to date they don't so you need to contact them about it.

As for allowing non-Sky of the BBC and ITV have been a long time coming.
Adding the ITV Player is also very welcome news.

I've just read that the BBC is going to charge for us to use iPlayer - how can they charge us for a service that in effect we are already paying for with the compulsory licence fee.

I'm on a 10mb Virgin BB connection and if i've used up my total download allowance during peak times, i cannot successfully stream BBC iPlayer in HD nor HD youtube videos?

however once the 10mb goes to 20mb you should also have JUST enough bandwidth for iplayer streams when you have been throttled/restricted Thank you for your reply.
