I suspect that Emily Post is just recognizing that 2nd baby showers invitations....
They need a shower in order to get gifts? I think etiquette rules can drift over time and with baby showers, we're witnessing the shift.

My friends threw me a second baby shower to share isn't a big deal to me but a full baby shower is a little strange especially if her children, all boys, are so close....

Background: I myself don't believe in 2nd baby showers...when I had my second I told everyone I did not want one. However, my sweet mother in law threw me a very small surprise coed family shower. I was polite and accepted it with a smile at the time....

I'm supposed to go to lunch tomorrow with a former coworker and a few current coworkers. I know that former coworker (a good friend) and his girlfriend will be announcing to everyone that they are pregnant and well into the 2nd trimester.

The tradition is throw a baby shower for a woman every 5 years. pregnancys or births within that time dont get baby showers. but i didnt have none for either of my children
