You could try creating a .vhd file in your share location, attach it in disk management, then tell Windows Server Backup to use that as if it were a locally.
Failed Backup results in NO backup.

Time Machine doesn't notify you if it doesn't backup or have any sort of centralized overview mode, but for backing up a bunch of machines you are better off with Retrospect which will let you backup over network, email you on errors....
