In 9 Ball, do you lose the game if you foul on the 9 ball? Or does the game continue with "ball in hand" for the opponent? And does it matter if you foul on the 9 ball when it is the only ball on the table or when you are attempting a combination in order...

If we are playing 8 ball and while potting the black ball i commit a foul or cue ball goes in the pocket .? the opponent still has 2-3 balls to pot . Will i lose the game or wil it be considered just a foul ?

Just earlier in the Essendon v. Richmond game, Hocking ran 20 metres and got tackled and dropped the ball, yet no free kick! Essendon went straight on to kick a goal. This dropping the ball while getting tackled rarely gets payed and this frustrates me...
