Picking dark colors attracts the sun more which will result in the paint fading much sooner to have got a few years....
I was “set in my ways” and stuck with only one brand of paint (Benjamin Moore).

I'm going to be restaining my siding this summer. But the trim
appears to have been mostly finished with paint instead of stain. Can
I paint over this with stain instead of paint? Would I have to scrape
it down to the wood to do so?

Aura would be my choice as well.
They are also Benjamin Moore's 1,2,3 in quality.

You can tout how great a gallon of paint is but at $60 bucks a gallon but in this economy ( at least here) its really going to be a tough sell.
