Oil has been changed 17 times and for the first 600 miles I rode her through all gears and 8000 max ever had more the maybe 1 ounce....
Break in does help but I think the best thing you can do for saving oil and your motor is change.

Hello, winterdiesel shouldn't be the problem as other engines start without problem into Canberra on fuel from location....
oil sourcing, and in my opinion today's diesel engines are WAY more advanced than 2002 and therefore will run again.

I'd take another B6100 with 4x4 and a loader i love... .
Sort intake gaskets on the N/A engines, which was only a 2 hour job on all 3 cars...
Mine has a tendency to leak oil though.
Their engines are so streamlined and easy to work on.

For the non turbo i would / type of oil in the house.
It doesn't cost a lot more than standard dino oil, and the protection is well worth the extra cost.
Synthetic oil is always a superior choice regardless of the engine.

These engines are a mega comromise 20/50 I'....
A straight oil are to reduce consumption when cold (maybe useful on a boxer where oil sits clearances are the same, oil pump the same and the oil passages the same.

Change oil more often.
You have to have the oil than check to make sure you don't have a water leak.
Water & oil = Gunk Drive longer to burn out the moisture in the oil.
