Hi,
I am interested to know if the terms alpha, beta and RC1 are terms that are used throughout the software industry or just MS.
What are the definitions?

I am developing software in C# for a Windows CE device and I have beta software soon to be released and I want it to die after a certain date so the final release will need to be downloaded.

It is quite intuitive that at least Gamma comes after Beta and Alpha.
But how about CTP, RTM and Preview releases? Which one comes first and last?
MEF (Managed Extensibility Framework) is currently on Preview 5 release, but I am not sure if it is a release...

I say Beta the software to customers as beta testing, collect comments, fix bugs & improve features.
