If you don't have customers, or you don't get enough beta....
They won't all say yes.
Usually, invite-only beta testing pretty much restricts you to existing or potential customers from your company, invite them to test your product.

BUT! Always throw your Prototype away and code from ground zero!
When the prototype evolves into the final application, I would utilize unit testing as early as possible.
