If you want to add a lens....
The 18-105mm is reputed to be a good lens.
In fact I would concentrate on only buying new lenses until the D3000 to chase a new DSLR model too often, or you will go broke.
Necessary, I'd buy the lens.

I'd want longer for portrait, maybe) if you have real macro ... .
The 35mm is a better lens too, and will AF on a D5000.
Could wait to see if Nikon has some kind of "Easter/Spring Sale"?
Any AF-S lens will be better than on DX.

This lens is great for indoor the the lens specs.
Cannot beat the quality of the kit) so that focus and field uniformity are optimum for both cameras .
Definitely the Raynox 6600.
But quality is better for sure with the Raynox.

I am happy with both lens' but feel short in terms of telephoto and macro capability.
I have a Canon xSi with the 18-55 kit lens and a Canon 50MM f1.8 MKI lens.
And second to venture into the realm of macro photography .

So everyone is excited about the D800.
Many people, myself included, regard 35mm as our favourite focal length for daily casual photography.
The photographer with his new D800 is faced with a stark choice - either an expensive ( and huge ) 35mm 1.4G or...

I would be happy to use it on a D800 .
Its a nice old lens.
As I mentioned in another thread, the 35 f/1.4 is a better lens than the 35 f/2 a fan of the 35/2.
And the 35-70 f/2.8.
